How To Get And Maintain Toned Abs

The three crucial aspects of getting toned abs are:
1) Correct Mindset
2) Proper Nutrition
3) Effective Exercise
Of the three aspects, having the correct mindset is THE single most important factor in maintaining your toned physique once you’ve got it. Let me share with you a short story I found on the web recently:
“An old Italian gentleman lived alone in New Jersey. He wanted to plant his tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:
Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa
A few days later he received a letter from his son:
Dear Papa, don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie
At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local policed arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day, the old man received another letter from his son:
Dear Papa, go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you, Vinnie.”
The moral of the story is, when there’s a will, there’s a way. If you really want those toned abs, you will find a way to get it and let me tell you it’s not going to be a magical product that you pay hundreds of dollars for. The investment is not going to be mainly monetary, it requires your time and energy. Discouragement and unmet expectations will be your worst enemies in your quest for a toned abdomen. So let me tell you this up front, it will take time and effort, YOUR effort.
Second, having proper nutrition ensures that you trim those excess fats off your body. (Note however, that you cannot target belly fat alone, it has got to be overall body fat loss) There’s no point in getting all the information you need and doing all the exercises only for you to binge on junk food after workouts. As most of us know by now, not having proper nutrition will ruin your efforts at the gym since nobody will get to see your rock hard abs under folds of abdominal fat.
A few simple tips about proper nutrition:
A Cut down on salt, sugar and processed food (microwave food)
A Substitute grilling for deep frying
A Use natural herbs to season lean meat
A Increase leafy vegetables and water intake
A Remove the skin and fat off poultry meat
A Prepare pre and post workout energy meals
A Prepare healthy snacks and drinks you can enjoy throughout the day
A Take more but smaller meals throughout the day to increase metabolism rate
Third and last aspect is effective exercise. One thing you have to understand about building toned abdominal muscles is that your exercises shouldn’t be isolated to just your abdomen region. Some of our body muscles work in antagonistic pairs (e.g. biceps and triceps) so that when one set of muscle contracts, the other set relaxes. This is true for our abdominal muscles as well. Take note that when you do exercises for your abdominal muscles, build up your back muscles as well so that they are able to complement each other. Another advantage is you’ll look so much better overall with a toned body rather than just a toned abdomen!
An interesting tip I came across on the web was to take pictures of your body in monthly intervals so that you can see the gradual improvements you’ve made since you started. There are many products on the web showing you just how to achieve the toned abs you’ve always wanted, do take note to select a product that gives you that holistic approach, Correct Mindset, Proper Nutrition and Effective Exercise.
