How to dress up for a formal event

Formal events are exciting, but they can be stressful to even the most stylish women. For most women, formal attire entails pulling out their special occasion dresses or buying an expensive gown. While the latter may cost a pretty penny, there are simple ways you can nail any formal dress code without breaking the bank.

Factors to consider

Before picking out an outfit, it is important to figure out what dress code is expected. Is it semi-formal, or is it formal? It will help you determine the overall vibe of the event. If the event is formal, you may want to don a floor-length gown, a knee-length dress, or a black dress and heels. A nice skirt and top, or even slacks with a dressy blouse, is ideal for a semi-formal affair.

Finally, take time and assess the type of formal event you will attend. For example, the event venue can make a difference in what you wear. Is it an indoor event or an outdoor event? What you would put on during a wedding is not how you will dress up for a formal business function.

When preparing for a formal occasion, confidence is the most important thing to keep in mind.  It’s your best feature. Whatever you choose to wear, make sure you wear it with confidence.
