The Problems Faced When Applying For Continuing Health Care

The more I read the less I understand the complex issues involving Continuing Health Care. The more I study, the more questions I ask, the more confused I become. I’ve watched videos of the lady who successfully won her battle for full National Health Funding and am so pleased she persevered with her long battle and eventually won her case. Why are so many people having such a bad time when they are least able to deal with it?
I look at my own elderly mother with such complex health needs. She can no longer walk and has to be hoisted everywhere. She cannot feed herself and even has tremendous difficulty drinking from a beaker. I was advised by a friend to apply for an assessment for continuing care. This was done in hospital without me being present and of course, as expected, she was turned down for a full assessment. To be honest I cannot even believe we were talking about the same person so have asked for a re-assessment now she is in a Nursing Home, but really do not hold out much hope of success. Everything seems loaded against it. Although the criteria is supposed to be …

The Power of Antioxidants and Your Health

Antioxidants are a class of nutrients found in foods that are known to prevent or slow the effects of oxidative damage in our bodies. Processes within our bodies that use oxygen cause oxidative damage. While oxygen is required for life when our cells use oxygen free radicals are created. Free radicals are a molecule that is lacking one or more electrons. Free radicals are highly unstable and can cause many problems within our bodies.
Antioxidants actually come in and donate the missing electron to the free radical thereby stabilizing it and preventing further damage. Some of the highest antioxidant foods are the berries. Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries and even grapes and cherries are all high in antioxidants. The ORAC or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity is how antioxidant activity in food is measured. All berries have a high ORAC level but the food with the highest ORAC level is actually the acai berry. There are a few things with …

What You Need to Know Before Becoming a Pastor

A degree isn’t necessary to become a pastor. However, there are certain requirements you will be expected to meet. Each denomination sets different requirements for its pastors. Instead, a degree can help you become a pastor. This is because it shows you understand theology, ministry, and the Bible. You can also get an understanding of these things from elsewhere.

Having a degree will better prepare you for your time as a pastor. However, you will ultimately be ordained by a church rather than a college. Therefore, you want to make sure your credentials will appeal to the church.

It Is Best if You Were Called to Become a Pastor

The first thing to determine is if you feel called to become a pastor. You should feel like you have been called to share the word of God with a congregation.

Can Insomnia Cause Diabetes?

Can Insomnia Cause Diabetes?

The question “can insomnia cause diabetes” can stir debate among medical professionals. While there is plenty of evidence that people with diabetes may experience periods of insomnia, is it true that insomnia can actually cause diabetes in otherwise healthy people?

The findings in a study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology may surprise many people. While the study was admittedly small compared to most medical studies, it did provide some insight into the question can insomnia cause diabetes.

Many people understand the link between being overweight and developing diabetes. Also, those with a family history of the disease are much more likely to develop it at some point in their lives.

So diabetes can cause insomnia, but how can insomnia cause diabetes? The study mentioned above found that if the adults being studied were otherwise healthy that the ability of the body to process insulin was diminished in those who did not get enough sleep.

Particularly disturbing were the findings that even suffering from a lack of sleep for ONE NIGHT can bring on such findings. In general, said the study, there is a link between the ability of the body to process insulin and …

Pediatric Massage for Healthcare Providers

Pediatric Massage for Healthcare Providers

Providing massage and touch therapy is within the scope of practice of many health care providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists. However, massage is not frequently practiced by these practitioners because of time constraints or lack of comfort with providing massage therapy. Qualified practitioners, who practice massage therapy for pediatric clients, and patients, provide numerous benefits to the child and improve their family’s satisfaction with the care their child receives. This compassionate care can also contribute to a positive healing environment, which has been shown to improve the satisfaction of members of the health care team.

The physical, psychological and emotional benefits of touch for infants, children and pediatric patients who are hospitalized have been well documented in published research studies. Equally documented are the effects of touch deprivation for hospitalized children.

Many health care providers have explored the use of massage for particular populations of children with special health care needs. Overall, the evidence that massage provides global benefits to a child’s health far outweighs any evidence of negative effects.

There are numerous benefits for infants and children contributed to the use of massage and touch therapy. Some studies …
